Pole Barn Color Options
Colors and style designs are some of the most fun parts of planning your post frame barn design. If you're building a barndominium, colors are sometimes one of the biggest decisions for you to make! If you have existing structures on your property, sometimes we see people either match or coordinate the color scheme of their new outbuilding with the colors on their current builds. Or in the case of post frame commercial builds, we often see clients stick with either timeless color combos, or color schemes that go well with their business type or with their existing branding/look.
It really is a matter of taste, but we wanted to walk you through some of the most popular color combos, as well as talk about options available to you. Something to keep in mind - you don't have to follow any "guide" about this. While there are popular combinations, it's a matter of personal taste, and no one knows your preferences better than you.
Some of the most popular color combos include the following (with picture examples for you!)
Bright White & Shiny Black - Both of these colors are often used with other colors as well, but they especially seem to complement one another. This 80' x 100' x 16' detached garage/outbuilding by Milmar used the Shiny Black and Bright White metals combination. It gives the barn a clean, modern look that many people look for when shopping around for building color options.
The customers on this 48' x 64' x 18' commercial retail space that we built recently also opted for the Shiny Black and Bright White metal colors options for their build.
We've also found that it's a great color choice for barno buyers looking to have a clean, modern, and minimalistic look for their home.
This Bright White & Black residential outbuilding/garage was a fun build (this image is from when the concrete was being poured). And this presents another clean/sharp building look.
Stone & Red, Clay & Red, or Tan & Red - The red look has been popular on barns for decades now, but sometime with a twist of a neutral added, it gives the barn a nice little diversion from the most classic of red building looks.
An alternate and even more often selected color combinations is one of the options of Black colors (Shiny Black, Black, Black with Frost texture finish, etc.) with one of the classic Red color options (Dark Red, Red, Crimson Red, even Burgundy.)
And of course, while we're discussing the red combos, we can't leave out the classic Red & White (variations include the various shades of whites and reds available in the metal siding colors.) Will this one ever not be considered a classic choice? In the world of pole barns, red combos will always be considered a timeless option.
Browns - There are a variety of options available in the browns category, including Brown, Tan, Burnished Slate, Clay, Stone, and Copper (oooh la la for accenting!) and Ivory (a brown under-toned creamy color).
Here are just a few inspirational images of some of the brown options!
These Burnished Slate & Clay builds (1. An oversized workshop/storage and garage space, and 2. A horse arena/barn area) certainly look great.
Clay & Stone can also be a great neutral duo to pair together on your build, like this residential detached garage build we did several years ago.
Black & Clay also makes for a good look - check out this awesome barndo and shop combo build that we did a few years back in black and clay. The wood accented wrap-around front porch and stone wainscoting really set this one apart!
This Black & Ivory workshop/car garage space was a killer in the looks department! With coordinating cupolas and other add-ons that made this a dream build! You can check out a full video about this post frame building on our youtube channel.
The Burnished Slate & Stone combo doesn't look too shabby on this epic man cave build! To see more views of this build you can check out the completion video that was made for the client.
Charcoal & Gray - Who says grays have to look boring? Below is a war museum that Milmar built in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The color choices for the build were this popular Charcoal and Gray combo.
Black & Charcoal - This 40' x 80' x 14' workshop/garage build that Milmar did for a client in Kankakee County, Illinois, turned out absolutely beautiful!
The gray family is a solid choice when it comes to colors, and here are a few other builds of ours that have incorporated some of the gray colors. This first is a 36' 6" x 48' 6" x 16' 6" shop/garage build that we repaired, re-framed, and reskinned for a client (also in Charcoal & Black) in Porter County, Indiana.
This simple Charcoal & Gray barndominium by Milmar Homes looked great too!
And this White & Charcoal horse barn design certainly causes one to take a second look!
Blues - Typically Blue or Gallery Blue are the choice when looking for a good blue color for your pole barn or post frame building.
This 60' x 120' x 18' riding arena and 36' x 56' x 12' stable/barn area was constructed with Gallery Blue & Charcoal colors for a client needing a custom equestrian facility build done in DeWitt County, Illinois.
And this fun 32' x 40' x 14' barn build in Ingham County, Michigan looked great with Gallery Blue exterior walls, Black roof/ridge, and Bright White trim, accents, and doors.
Evergreen and Hartford Green are personal favorites of mine! While not as popular of a color as some other more neutral or classic choices, these rich-colored greens can really make a wonderful and subtle statement. It also makes a great accent or roof color if you want to go with something besides some of the more commonly selected options like charcoal, black, or white.
And this barndominium home that Milmar constructed made for a unique and gorgeous look with the color options they chose. Or the detached garage below in Evergreen & Brown - how nice does that look nestled into the woods?
