We get questions about Amish builders and if we ever use Amish crews in our builds. What some people don't know about Milmar Buildings is that we have Amish roots! Our founder, Marvin Miller, grew up Amish and with the strong work ethic and get-it-done attitude that his Amish community had. There are pros and cons to Amish builders, and the beauty in Milmar Buildings' growth and development is that Marvin has been able to expand on the advancement and progress that has captured the post frame building industry, while not throwing out the good he learned as a one-time Amish barn builder in Indiana himself.

According to Milmar's founder, Marvin "I would say that one of the ways an Amish background impacts us now as a building company, is that we [Milmar] have the attitude that things must happen and we just figure out how to make it happen. That's probably the most Amish thing that we still do."
We don't give up when things are tough, we continue to find ways to innovate, overcome, and ensure each build we produce is top-quality and without compromise. Milmar offers a top-of-the-line warranty on every build we construct, because we firmly believe in our builds, as well as caring for every client, no matter how big or small the building project is.
As far as the pole barns, garages, commercial builds, and barndominium/post frame homes we construct, these are built at a similar excellent quality as the top post frame builders in the US. There are differences in how each company constructs, certainly, and what they will include in their builds. For example, FBI Buildings pretty much sticks to just shell builds, while we offer a lot of the trades as optional add-ons for your building plan and scope of work - like concrete, electric, plumbing rough-ins, etc., and even turnkey builds in some regions. While Morton Buildings has so many locations, they are more widely available throughout the US, you do have to make sure that the location near you has a good reputation and such, as each location varies a bit.

Some of the ways we have been known to stand out as great builders is simply that we approach every job with the mindset of offering solutions. We know that every build has a specific purpose it's fulfilling or solving for and that every client has different needs. So our builds are all custom, but also built with a "What problem is this solving for the client, and how can we make sure we're meeting those needs." mindset.
We are also aggressive builders! We use great subs on some of our projects, but our project managers, production directors, and project supervisors are always in-house employees. We don't sub out the management or quality checks of any project - we keep a close eye on those things to ensure that the builds are the best.

Amish Builders - Things to know
Amish builders are varied in building styles, quality, and experienced. We even employ some of the better Amish crews in our regions on some of our building projects! The main things you just want to be watchful of are these:

Is the Amish builder you are choosing licensed and insured

Do they have a good reputation

Do they offer a written warranty for their builds.
Just because a builder is Amish, is not a guarantee is any way that they do things aboveboard. Just like any category of builders, there are great ones and not so great ones. Those that do things legally and those that ignore codes and laws put in place for your protection. So we just advise to use caution, like you would with any builder, Amish or not. We know quite well that they can be excellent or subpar. It totally depends on each builder's leadership, ethics, and standards for building.
This Amish heritage and background our founder was raised in encouraged the hard work and can-do attitude that many Amish builders possess, and it has ensured that while Milmar embraces modern techniques and advancements in the building industry, the essence of quality and attention to detail remains intact. It's the best of both worlds!
