When Should You Book Your Summer Build

Written by Anna Maxwell | December 3, 2024

Are you ready to build your post frame project? Or getting ready to build and want to plan to start in the summer season? You'll want to go ahead and get your quote and reserve your spot on the building schedule. While it may seem a distance away, summer build schedules fill up incredibly fast and you don't want you to miss out on getting your pole barn build done in the timeframe you're wanting.

The benefits of booking now is that you can lock in at current prices, you can reserve your space on the build schedule, and you are able to get started on the pre-construction work with Milmar (like applying for permits, lining up scheduling, making any final design tweaks, etc.), which can save you from delays closer to your construction start time.

Many times, we see people wait to book their build, only to find out that they're going to have to push back their ideal start time because builder availability and schedules are already full. When you have a builder that's focused on making sure your pole barn is constructed with the best quality and within a good timeline, you'll often find that you want to get on their schedule sooner than later.

Why Summer Could be the Ideal Building Time for Your Pole Barn

  • Complete Construction During Ideal Weather Conditions: By building your pole barn in the summer, you are typically going to be working with some of the best build weather of the year in the Midwest. While all seasons have their pros and cons to building, summer certainly stands apart as a time when lots of builds get done quickly, since the weather patterns are typically favorable for building with less delays.

The typical summer weather conditions also give shorter cure times and less strategy needed for things like pouring concrete. While pouring concrete and having it cure correctly is totally possible in the colder months, there is less planning that has to go into a summer concrete pad pour.

More daylight hours often give opportunity for crews and contractors to work longer hours, making it easier for them to work ahead on your build or renovation.
  • Prepare for Future Seasons: Booking your build for the summer construction schedule ensures that it's ready to go for things like protecting your animals in the colder weather, storing seasonal equipment and machinery in the off-season and out of some of the harsher weather elements like cold temps and snow/ice. If you have a workshop, hobby shop, or car storage/garage area plan in your future, this allows you to get the build up before the colder weather sets in too, giving you an ideal space to work throughout the unpredictable colder season weather of the Midwest (radiant heat flooring in the month of January, anyone?)
  • Planning To Do Some of the Work Yourself: If you are planning to finish out your own interior, and are just contracting to have the post frame building shell done, having the shell built in the summer gives you a protected/safer area to work in as the weather starts to get colder and rainier with the seasons. The shells of post frame/pole barn builds can be erected fairly quickly, so having the space to work in as you complete the rest of the work is always a plus. (Does anyone else put off or take their sweet time on their own DIY renovations projects like I do? Or is that only me... 🤔)
