This barndominium design for which we constructed the shell is having all the interior work finished out by the clients. This post frame home was specifically designed to be ADA accessible, as the client on this build has received a diagnosis of ALS. When designing or working on homes like this, keeping in mind all the logistics and the physical challenges that will arise in the future is essential.
Custom homes serve many purposes, and for some, like this client, the top-of-mind priority is to provide a space for their family to continue to thrive, while still being accessible for each member of the family.
This thoughtfully designed home is a 5 bed 5 bath, with a large attached garage. It features a second story, but has ground-floor bedrooms to accommodate the needs of the family member needing accessibility design in their future.
We hope to return to capture the interior and all the work that this family is pouring into their home, but for now, enjoy this timelapse showing the complete shell build in just 10 mins.
With this client, and the needs of so many other people who have been diagnosed with ALS in mind, we want to highlight the opportunity to contribute to the research in this area too. There are several great organizations and associations out there that are conducting research and development to further the knowledge and resources available to support those walking through an ALS diagnosis.
